Of course, if they did their own proprietary chunk types, this could lead to a problem where multiple vendors use the same chunk type ID for what is actually different types of data, and create problems where they each think they are decoding their own non-standard data chunk, but actually trying to decode someone else's non-standard data chunk, and lead to all sorts of crazy results, from crashes, to error messages, to inexplicable behavior of the app. ![]() This can be used for animation, but doesn't have to be. This is basically what MNG does, but MNG is a standard for encoding multiple images in a PNG. A vanilla/standards compliant png will only have the 14 types of chunks defined in the standard.īut you could put almost anything you want into a png, I suspect, by adding additional chunks with new/undefined chunk types - other programs should probably just ignore non-standard chunk types that they don't recognize the type of, and just display the basic image encoded in the standard chunks.
